Elijah Manishimwe
Doha Debates Ambassador 2024

Elijah Manishimwe is a young Rwandan refugee community leader (Refugee Welfare Council 3 – RWC III) advocating for the well-being of refugees. He represents all sports activities in the Nakivale settlement in Uganda, consisting of almost 180,000 refugees and asylum-seekers, and represents youth at a national level in the Refugee Engagement Forum (REF) in Uganda. Elijah studied biology, chemistry and art in high school. In his free time, he loves listening to music, touring new places and reading novels and the Bible. Elijah is proudest of receiving an award from Alight Uganda’s Sports for Peace and Protection Program after successfully organizing a sports event for young refugees with disabilities. He is also proud of the counseling and guidance session he organized as an alumnus of Nakivale Secondary School, encouraging students—especially those preparing for national exams—to focus on their studies. He hopes to pursue further studies to strengthen his leadership capacity and gain applicable business skills to help him train more young refugees to be self-reliant. Elijah is excited to be a Doha Debates ambassador because the program will equip him with the basic knowledge and skills to handle difficult conversations as a young leader. Additionally, being an ambassador will allow him to connect and network with other ambassadors around the globe and learn much from them.
