Judith E. Heumann
International disability rights activist

Judith Heumann was an international disability rights activist who served in the Obama and Clinton administrations. She was featured in Crip Camp: A Disability Revolution, a 2020 Oscar-nominated documentary, directed by James LeBrecht and Nicole Newnham and produced by Barack and Michelle Obama’s Higher Ground Productions company. As a senior fellow at the Ford Foundation, she wrote Road Map for Inclusion: Changing the face of disability in media, and her memoir, Being Heumann: An unrepentant memoir of a disability rights activist, was first published in 2020.


Judith Heumann died on March 4, 2023, at the age of 75.
