Sicelo Shange
Doha Debates Ambassador 2024

Sicelo Shange identifies as a humanitarian above all else. He is currently involved with different community-based organizations that play a role in alleviating social challenges like period poverty, food insecurity and gender-based violence. Sicelo hails from and currently lives in South Africa, where he volunteers for EduPowerment as a grassroots community worker advocating for climate education and educating young students about climate change. In his free time, he enjoys working with young people, reading and researching interesting global trends. Knowing that climate change issues are cross-cutting, he joined the African Climate Alliance, where he addresses issues that derail climate action and advocates for climate justice. Sicelo is most proud of being selected as a youth advisory board member for a partnership between Education Above All, Silatech and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, where he mobilizes young people to stand up for their human rights and provides input on the overall direction of the project. He was one of the South African delegates at the 2022 Y7 Summit, where he provided policy recommendations, and is one of the signatories of a communique submitted to German chancellor Olaf Scholz. Sicelo is excited to be a Doha Debates ambassador because the program aligns with his main social advocacy: dialogue and discourse on societal issues and social justice. He knows that the program will equip him to understand how global conversations and discourse can ensure a fair and just society with sustainability at the forefront.
