Doha Debates Town Hall

Should we engineer a world without disability?

Co-moderated by Dr. Victor Pineda and Nelufar Hedayat.
October 4, 2022

      About

Cutting-edge medical and genetic technologies are advancing so quickly that we can now engineer elements of our future. These technologies raise significant ethical, moral and legal questions, and for people with disabilities, those questions can be a matter of their very existence. Do we have a moral obligation to use these technologies to eliminate traits that could lead to disability? Or is it our responsibility to acknowledge and embrace genetic diversity by restricting how these technologies are used? The Doha Debates Town Hall, hosted at the World Innovation Summit for Health, led a town hall-style conversation that asked: Should we engineer a world without disability?
